wedding registries v. straight cash homie

I head to lots of weddings these days and I've formed an opinion on the gift protocol. I think its inappropriate to ask for cash. When people say no boxed gifts they want you to give them money. Perhaps a gift card goes well here, but there's no real personal giving. And I'm against wedding registries. That's absurd... You want me to go and buy your domestic goods for you? That's even worse than giving cash. Now you want the cash and you want me to go to the store and buy it for you. I love getting gifts that are surprises. Can't we go back to that model??

buy booze for the underage in CA, get terminated!

    - None of you underagers are getting me to buy again!

The Tower of Terror, a popular ride at Disney's California Adventure, was a scene of real terror for some as a man fell roughly 25 feet from a platform while waiting for the ride.

A 20-year-old man fell last night while waiting in line for The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror ride, billed by Disneyland as a haunted elevator ride through a formerly elegant hotel.

MetroNet of Anaheim, which dispatches for the Anaheim Fire Department, received a call at 10:31 p.m. Wednesday reporting that a man had fallen after climbing over a rail.

The man was treated for minor injuries at University of California, Irvine, Medical Center and released.

    Disneyland released this statement:

"Last night a 20-year-old male guest fell in the queue line at the Tower of Terror attraction at Disney California Adventure. The guest was standing in line with friends on a second-floor platform when he climbed over a barrier to the area below and lost his balance and fell approximately 25 feet. The guest was transported by ambulance to the hospital."

The underage drinking event is being used to amplify Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's signing of legislation today that holds adults in California liable if youth they serve alcohol to are injured or killed.

"California becomes one of just a few states with a social host liability law that hold adults accountable for underage drinking," reads a statement from conference organizers. "Underscoring the significance, the signing comes one day after a 20-year-old who Anaheim police say had been drinking fell 25 feet from a Disney theme park ride, injuring himself."

    PR from Liberty Tax

Jackson Hewitt announced their fiscal 2010 results today. And, while they made a valiant effort to spin some things to look positive, overall the news was as we expected, very bad. In the financials that were posted on the internet today Jackson Hewitt’s auditors said “the uncertainty regarding the Company’s ability to have sufficient funding to meet its obligations raises substantial doubt about its ability to continue as a going concern.’ A company is required to disclose in their financials whether there are any factors that may put the company's status as a going concern in doubt. Clearly, this has happened to Jackson Hewitt.

Perhaps even more important is that Liberty Tax Service had a higher profit than Jackson Hewitt for the fiscal year which makes us #2 in profit and the fastest growing (21st Century) in the tax industry. An amazing accomplishment and we have you our franchisees and employees to thank. The coming tax season looks to hold a lot of opportunity for Liberty Tax Service so hang on and enjoy the journey.

    rut

Been stuck in a rut for a few weeks now. It took me a while to realize that and it took me another bit of time to try and reverse it. Was on track today until allergies ruined me. Always something... but never a good enough a excuse!

    the never-ending nba playoffs

most of the media and fans following r way too fickle. its the playoffs and its one game. not that it matters to me, but i think the cavs will win in 7 and then we can talk about how great the they look. everybody has looked bad and everybody has looked good at some point in the playoffs, except for the magic who have looked only great. but im sure once they lose a game in ECF then we can write them off. everyone just simmer down. there's another MONTH of basketball left to freak out over.

How do you even practice for this stunt? I don't if this pumped the crowd up or just psyched them straight OUT.

    hurt locker

So overrated. We had a really bad year for movies considering that won for best. It's like we forgot about Saving Private Ryan, Black Hawk Down and other great war pieces that came before this one. Those ones had compelling plots, original content, and realistic war scenes. Just because this has pertinence to our current war doesn't make it original. There was poor character development, and the plot was abrupt I thought. I'm harsher than the average audience member, but its hard for me to not think this sucked after Band of Brothers.

    canada v. usa - gold medal/grudge match

On the risk of starting a border skirmish:

just remember canada, this means more to YOU than it does to US.... if we lose we, its not the end of the world. besides, we know the stanley cup will remain in the states (going on 17 years since a canadian team has won). if YOU lose as the host when you're the favorite then the olympics are a nuclear disaster. good luck!

    from Bill Simmons' colum

My favorite MJ stat of all time: From November 1990 through June 1998, the Bulls never lost three games in a row with Jordan. My second-favorite MJ stat of all time: In his final three Chicago seasons, in a 31-month stretch that started November '95 and ended June '98, he played in 310 of a possible 310 games. My third-favorite MJ stat of all time: He averaged 30.1 points in the regular season and 33.4 points in the playoffs. That's really all you needed to know about the guy. Warrior. Impossibly competitive. Got better when it mattered.
