why ask?

Why do people ask if there's anything they can do, when they're nothing to do. I don't know if people want to know whats going on more than if they can really help. But it irks me beyond normalcy because it has nothing to do with them!

Here's the part that jumps out, I'm only going to ask somebody if I know somethings wrong... If everything is fantastic, would I be asking? Only if you really care otherwise, no.
